Eine Fahrt mit dem Führer eines Deh 4/4 Triebwagens der Furka-Oberalp Bahn von Andermatt nach Disentis

We ride with the driver of a Deh 4/4 railcar in summer along the impressive metre-gauge rack and adhesion line of the Furka-Oberalp Railway from Andermatt to Disentis. This high mountain route rises to a height of 2033 metres above sea level, never descending below the 1100 metre mark. The landscape is open and the views over the region wonderful.

A line from Brig to Gletsch was opened in 1915, but it was only when the Furka-Oberalp company took over the railway in the 1920s that the route was continued to Andermatt and over the Oberalp Pass to Disentis.

The ride begins at Andermatt station, which is also the terminus of the
FO Schöllenen line which makes a connection with the main SBB Gotthard route at Göschenen. In order to take over the Oberalp pass, some 600 metres above Andermatt, the line becomes especially spectacular with gradients of up to 1 in 9. Not only is rack assistance needed, but the line loops along the mountain side with horseshoe tunnels and an open loop needed before reaching Nätschen.
